Jean M. Clayton

Jean Mary Clayton of Niceville, Florida, passed Friday, 19 April 2024 in Niceville. Born in March 1938 in South Meriden, Connecticut, Jean started on a life full of adventure, excitement, and promise, In 1957, she met and married the love of her life, James (Jimbo) Clayton. The next 55 years were spent around the world at Jim’s Air Force assignments, as Jean embarked on a career with the Government Civil Service. Starting as a GS-1 clerk, she moved through the civil service ranks, culminating in assignments as the staff assistant to the 919th Wing Commander at Duke Field, Fla, and lastly as the assistant to the Commander, AMRAAM Project Office at Eglin AFB, FL. After a 35 year career, she and Jim settled in Niceville and spent many happy times with their grandchildren and great grandchildren,

   Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband Jim, as well as both of her sons, James III, and Christopher, a sister and a brother, and great granddaughter Isis.

   Jean is survived by her daughter Cheryl Ann (John) Symons of Crestview, Daughter-in-Law Karen, of Valparaiso, Grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Jamie, Jonathan, Jordan, and Jensen, and Great Grandchildren. Jean’s greatest passion late in life became her cats. Inside or out, she cared for them all. Jean has made special provisions to care for strays and her favorites, and wishes that donations in her name be made to a local No-Kill pet adoption center nearest you.

  A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Heritage Gardens Funeral Home chapel in Niceville on Friday, 10 May 2024 with a visit at 12:30 PM and service at 1:00 PM.

Her favorite, Father Toledo will officiate. Per Jean’s desire, she will be cremated and her and Jimbo will spend their earthly eternity at the Heritage Gardens columbarium.
